An Indian man was killed, & his wife was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident in the United States state of Indiana.
Anshul Sharma, 30, died on the spot whereas his wife Samira Bharadwaj, 28, was injured seriously in the accident on Sunday evening. Two of the pedestrians were from Columbus city of Indiana, told the police.
A 36-year-old man, Michael Demaio, was accused by the police. He was driving a red Chrysler minivan & hit the couple from back near Four Seasons Retirement Centre in Columbus, described the Republic newspaper on Tuesday.
The arrested later escaped the scene.
Sharma was declared dead at the scene by a Bartholomew County Coroner whereas Bharadwaj was next transported to a hospital in Indianapolis.
Demaio “failed several field sobriety exercises,” the police told. The minivan was located with substantial damage to its hood & a cracked windshield.
The arrested, who is presently in a county jail, faces some preliminary charges, covering failure to halt after an accident resulting in death, failure to stop following an accident ending in injury, operating while intoxicated following in death & operating while intoxicated following in injury, told the report.

Meanwhile, family & friends of Sharma maintained their efforts to take his body back to India & to support his wife, who was in a dangerous condition.
There were many messages on Twitter on Tuesday asking help for the family.
The spokeswoman of Cummins, a diesel engine manufacturer in Columbus, where Sharma worked as an engineer, told the company was in constant communication with the Sharma family & providing assistance in efforts to return his body to India.
